Summer camps are vibrant environments where children and staff engage in a variety of outdoor activities, but they also pose unique health risks, particularly when it comes to sepsis and communicable diseases. Join Dr. Laura Blaisdell for a session, supported by the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), that aims to equip camp healthcare providers, youth development professionals, and administrators with the essential knowledge and tools to prevent, identify, and manage sepsis and other infectious conditions in a camp setting. This session will identify important prevention activities and introduce the concept of “sepsis alert” as a key intervention for the ill child.

Learning Objectives:

  • Learn the signs and symptoms of sepsis, its causes, and its rapid progression in children.
  • Explore best practices for early recognition, timely intervention, and the importance of immediate health service response to minimize long-term complications.
  • Prepare to respond quickly and efficiently to health concerns, ensuring the well-being of campers and staff alike.
  • Gain insights into creating and implementing camp-wide plans for managing outbreaks of communicable diseases and handling emergencies like sepsis.
