If you're new to working with youth in camps, afterschool programs, summer enrichment, or other community-based settings, this 15-hour online course is the perfect starting point. Designed for those with little to no experience, this course covers ACA’s 13 Core Competencies, providing the foundational knowledge needed to kick-start your career in youth programming. This course is ideal for those just beginning their journey in youth programming. Once you complete the course and gain hands-on experience, you may choose to pursue the ACA Experienced Program Staff Certificate to continue your professional growth.

The final component of the course allows you to focus on a specific area of interest, such as: Working with a particular clientele (e.g., youth with special needs), exploring a specialized setting (e.g., wilderness tripping), developing skills in a unique activity (e.g., ropes courses). You’ll create personalized learning experiences, including attending specialized training, conferences, or completing additional readings, to further your expertise in your chosen area.

Learner Outcomes
At the end of this course, learners will have completed learning experiences that

  1. Augment their personal skills/knowledge sets
  2. Improve their abilities to offer quality experiences to the youth they serve
  3. Enhance their own professional development.
