"OPEN SPACE" is an incredible meeting methodology that has been effective for 25+ years in a diversity of settings, cultures and countries. At a
traditional conference, a committee chooses the workshops 6-12 months in advance. In "OPEN SPACE"...YOU create the agenda and convene on
discussions that are relevant to YOU in the moment.
Do YOU...need some help developing your staff training?
Are YOU...curious about effective marketing strategies?
Would YOU...be interested in a discussion around how to prepare for and defend staff and campers from H1N1 (and other illness)? How has
the economy affected YOU?
Do YOU...have some fresh ideas for teen programs to share?
Did something happen recently concerning your camp or program that YOU would like to talk about with your peers?
"OPEN SPACE" gives everyone a chance to use their voice to ask for what they need and/or share their knowledge and experience. As a
participant in "OPEN SPACE", you will take an active role in your own learning and you will have unique power and responsibility to make sure
others get the learning they need. Under the guidance of a trained and experienced facilitator of "OPEN SPACE", YOU will create the content of
the conference!
Through "OPEN SPACE" we create structure from chaos. No one who takes responsibility for their own learning ever leaves disappointed. See
why so many alumni of "OPEN SPACE" conferences report this is the best conference experience they've ever had.
We are pleased to have Tom and Jennifer Leahy of Leahy & Associates in Boulder, Colorado facilitate this process for us. While you may know
Tom as a challenge course installer and trainer, you may not know that Tom has extensive experience as a corporate team skills facilitator and
has been formally trained in "OPEN SPACE" methodology. He has been using "OPEN SPACE" for 17 years at their annual conference "NCCPS" and with various other professional groups and conferences.
We are excited to announce this year's keynote speaker Jennifer Selke, PH.D. Dr. Jennifer Selke is in her 18th year running summer recreation and after school programs. She received her Ph.D. in Educational Psychology from U.C. Berkeley and now splits her time a number of different ways. She runs a large summer camp in the Recreational Sports Department at U.C. Berkeley which includes an integrated social skills camp for children and teens. She is also a faculty member in the U.C. Berkeley Graduate School of Education & affiliated with the Berkeley Center for New Media. Jennifer is a licensed educational psychologist in private practice and works part-time at a public middle school. Her technology interests have taken her into the blogging and social media world where she runs a popular blog TheCampDirector.com.

Moving Ahead of the Curve: How Camps Can Lead
Camp professionals have survived over a decade of rapid shifts in society. Think of the drastic transformations in technology, staff expectations, parent involvement, behavior and mental health disorders, play-time, academic demands, etc. Initially, camps were caught off guard in some areas and slow to adapt. Currently, the industry is positioned to take the lead. What can you expect from the coming crop of campers and staff? How does technology play a role in your camp and business? Discover what changes are occurring and more importantly, what you can do to stay ahead. Learn how camps can be flexible while continuing to provide that quality experience that changes lives.
