Governmental Agencies and Links

U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission
The EEOC is responsible for enforcement of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 (Title VII), the Equal Pay Act (EPA), the Age Discrimination in Employment Act (ADEA), and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

The Department of Labor
There are many agencies within the DOL that are helpful to human resource issues. Some of interest would be:

Occupational Safety and Health Administration
OSHA’s role is to assure the safety and health of America's workers by setting and enforcing standards; providing training, outreach, and education; establishing partnerships; and encouraging continual improvement in workplace safety and health.

The Wage and Hour Division
The WHD is responsible for administering and enforcing some of our nation’s most comprehensive labor laws, including: the minimum wage, overtime, and child labor provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA); the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA); the Migrant and Seasonal Agricultural Worker Protection Act (MSPA); worker protections provided in several temporary visa programs.

Office of Disability Employment Policy
ODEP provides information of employment issues related to the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

The Bureau of Labor Statistics
The BLS is the principal fact-finding agency for the federal government in the broad field of labor economics and statistics.

State Human Resources and Labor Information
There is information available on the federal Department of Labor site that will link you to individual state organizations related to labor issues.

ELAWS
ELAWS stands for "Employment Laws Assistance for Workers and Small Businesses." This Web site was developed to help employers and workers understand their rights and responsibilities under the federal employment laws administered by the U.S. Department of Labor.
