Camp Administrator 101: Preparing for Your New Role

Course Description: Based on the American Camp Association's popular New Director Orientation program, this course teaches the fundamentals of leadership, staff training, and supervision; risk management; and child development and behavior. This three-hour course is perfect for new directors and for those with less than three years of experience.

Length: 3 hours.

Requirements for Successful Completion: 70% or higher on multiple choice final exam.

Learning Outcomes: Learners will be able to recognize different leadership styles; how leaders manage their power, authority and responsibilities; job descriptions; organizational charts; planning a staff manual and pre-camp training; training methods; staff supervision and the role of employer; performance appraisals; crisis documentation procedures; risk management procedures; and camper growth, development, and appropriate behavior.
