Health Officer Training - Responding to Emergencies (RTE)

The purpose of the Responding to Emergencies (RTE) course is to help participants recognize and respond appropriately to cardiac, breathing and first aid emergencies. This course teaches skills that participants need to know in order to provide immediate care to an injured or ill person and to decide whether advanced medical care is needed. The course will cover 4 major components (1) bloodborne pathogens (2) CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer (3) Responding to Emergencies Before Care (4) Responding to Emergencies First Aid. The course will also cover your emergency protocols in a generalized manner.

To successfully complete the Responding to Emergencies (RTE) course, you must (1) attend and participate in all class sessions (2) participate in all skill sessions (3) demonstrate competency in all required skills and scenarios (4) pass each section of the written exam with a score of 80 percent or better and (5) complete all required course prework. All required course prework will be sent at least one week prior to the start date of the course. Upon successful completion of the course, you will receive an American Red Cross certificate for Responding to Emergencies (RTE), valid for two years.
